Buyer's Premium:

This collection encompasses a variety of printed materials and operational ephemera related to British railway history. The lot includes several vintage publications: the December 1965 issue of Railway Modeller magazine, a Railway Magazine Special titled Going by Train 1825-1975 featuring the LNER Class A4 Mallard No. 4468, and the first issue of Steam World magazine. Contemporary promotional material includes a Trainload Freight booklet and a Summer 1993 East Midlands Freight map and booklet.

Official British Railways documentation includes a green cloth-bound volume of Regulations for Train Signalling and Signalmen’s General Instructions (B.R. 29960) dated 1st October 1972, a British Railways Rule Book (B.R. 87109) housed in a red vinyl binder, and a Periodical Operating Notice for the Eastern Region Northern Area (No. 23D) covering the period from June to August 1980. Also present are Working Instructions for D.C. Electrified Lines in a blue softcover and a red Team Brief binder dated December 1991.

Memorabilia consists of two white-ground enamel or metal signal box lever plates for the Thurcroft Branch: No. 27 (Down Single Line Starter to Thurcroft Branch 5.6) and No. 11 (Thurcroft Branch Up Home to Single Line 17.5). The lot is completed by a 1969 National Union of General and Municipal Workers Rules booklet and a black and white landscape photograph depicting a diesel multiple unit crossing a masonry viaduct.

Condition report:

The items are in mixed condition consistent with age and operational railway use. The 1980 Periodical Operating Notice is in poor condition with heavy staining, creasing, and significant tearing to the cover. The 1972 Signalling Regulations manual shows shelf wear and bumped corners. The magazines and softbound booklets exhibit typical edge wear and some fading. The signal box lever plates show minor surface marks and age-related wear around the mounting holes. General toning and light foxing are present across the paper items.
