The bowl is of squat form with rounded corners and is supported by four small black-glazed bun feet. The exterior features a continuous transfer-printed rural landscape decoration, hand-coloured with shades of blue, green, orange, and purple, depicting cottages, trees, and sheep in a field. The interior is finished with a bright yellow lustre glaze. The rim and lower body are accented with thin black-painted horizontal bands. The base bears a black printed factory mark for Lancaster and Sons, featuring a pottery building silhouette with the word HANLEY above and MADE IN ENGLAND below. The base also features the hand-painted number 426.
Condition report:
The item shows signs of age and use, including extensive fine crazing to the glaze on the base and some to the exterior. The yellow lustre interior shows significant wear, with areas of darkening and loss to the iridescent finish, particularly at the bottom. There is minor rubbing to the black-painted trim on the upper rim. No chips, cracks, or professional repairs are visible.
