Lot 308:
Description
A carved hardstone figure of a reclining Budai, the figure is rendered in the round in a relaxed pose with a joyful facial expression. He is depicted with a characteristic large, exposed belly, resting his right side against a large sack. His left hand holds a string of prayer beads (mala) resting over his knee. The reverse and base of the carving further depict stacks of stylised coins and a rectangular block, traditional symbols of prosperity and wealth. The stone is of a mottled pale greyish-white colour with subtle translucent qualities and faint greenish undertones, characteristic of certain types of jadeite or similar hardstone. No maker marks, reign marks, or inscriptions are visible on the base or body of the piece.
Dimensions: Not provided.
Condition report:
The figure appears to be in good overall condition. There is minor surface wear and small abrasions consistent with age and handling. The stone exhibits natural inclusions and internal fissures inherent to the material. No significant chips or structural repairs are evident from the provided images.
