Lot 294:
Description
An antique 925 silver retractable toothpick of cylindrical form. The body features hand-engraved foliate and geometric scrollwork patterns across the length of the barrel. It is designed with a central decorative collar and a terminal cap fitted with a suspension ring, intended for attachment to a gentleman’s watch chain or a lady’s chatelaine. The internal mechanism houses a retractable metal spike with a flattened and tapered point. There are faint indentations on the barrel that appear to be worn hallmarks or maker’s marks, though they are currently illegible. The style and construction are consistent with English silver craftsmanship from the late Victorian or Edwardian periods.
Condition report:
The item is in good antique condition. There is visible surface tarnishing and light scratches across the silver barrel consistent with age and regular use. The hand-engraved decoration remains well-defined. The retractable mechanism is functional.
