Description
An extensive collection of blue and white glazed ceramics, primarily earthenware, decorated in the traditional Delft style with cobalt blue designs on a white ground. The group comprises a wide variety of decorative and miniature forms, including multiple pairs and single miniature souvenir-style clogs; several miniature Dutch canal houses; a figural money box in the form of a seated dog; figurines depicting children in traditional Dutch attire; and miniature windmills, one featuring metal sails. Tableware and vessels include a large tankard with floral decoration; a tall decanter with a stopper depicting a windmill; various vases including bud, flared-rim, and baluster shapes; lidded ginger jars and storage pots; a set of graduated round lidded boxes; several ashtrays; egg-shaped salt and pepper shakers; and a small cream jug. The collection also features decorative bells, a basket-shaped dish, and wall-hanging plaques. Decoration is achieved through both hand-painted and transfer-printed techniques, featuring traditional Dutch landscapes with windmills, sailing vessels, canal buildings, and floral motifs. Notable markings include a dish base marked Delfts Handwerk and a shaped plaque marked Delfts Handpainted with a crown over S mark, associated with Schoonhoven.
Condition report:
Overall the collection is in good decorative condition with signs of age-related wear consistent with use. Minor flea bites and small chips are present to some items, including a chip to the unglazed foot rim of the Delfts Handwerk dish. The Delfts Handpainted plaque shows minor surface wear and a small nick near the hanging aperture. One miniature windmill is missing its sails.
