Description
A hand-painted leather decorative piece by Hector M., depicting the Aztec Sun Stone or Piedra del Sol in the stylised colourful manner associated with the artist Michael Angulo. The circular design is applied to a square of light-coloured suede or leather and features the central deity Tonatiuh surrounded by concentric rings of Aztec iconography, including the twenty day signs and fire serpents. The palette includes vibrant turquoise, emerald green, crimson red, and ochre yellow pigments. The reverse side is hand-inscribed with provenance from the Museo Nacional de Antropologia e Historia in Mexico City (Cd. de Mexico D.F.), marked Hecho a Mano and signed Hector M.
Measurements: Leather square approximately 200 mm by 190 mm; circular design diameter approximately 145 mm.
Condition report:
The item is in good overall condition with bright, well-preserved colours. The leather shows minor signs of age and natural variations in texture consistent with the material. The edges are roughly cut as intended by the maker.
