Lot 200:
Description
Two pairs of vintage prism binoculars of varying sizes. The larger pair is of British military pattern, featuring metal bodies with a black textured covering. The right prism cover is engraved with the field of view specification Field 8.2 degrees above a broad arrow crowsfoot mark, signifying government issue. The central bridge cap is stamped with the serial number 135228. This instrument is fitted with a leather neck strap. The smaller pair is a compact set of prism binoculars with a similar black textured finish and metal hardware. It features incised markings on the central pivot which are largely illegible due to wear. A leather strap is wrapped around the body of this second pair. Included with the lot is a single brown leather hard-shell carrying case with a shoulder strap. The front catch of the case is set with a circular metal mount featuring a red triangular emblem, a trademark associated with A. Kershaw and Sons of Leeds.
Condition report:
Both instruments show significant signs of age and heavy field use. There is extensive brassing and finish loss to the metal edges, bridges, and eyepieces of both pairs. The textured body coverings exhibit light scuffing and dirt accumulation. All leather straps are in poor condition, being dry, heavily cracked, and worn. The glass optics appear dusty and would require professional cleaning; internal components have not been inspected for bloom, fungus, or haze. Mechanical functionality and optical alignment have not been tested. The lot is incomplete, missing all protective lens caps.
