Description
This collection of vintage cigarette cards consists of Kensitas Flowers silks issued by J. Wix and Sons Ltd for Kensitas Cigarettes, dating to circa 1932–1934. Each item comprises a machine-embroidered silk panel featuring a botanical study, mounted within a protective cream card folder. The identified species within the group include Narcissus, Petunia, Daisy, Bleeding Heart, Rambler Rose, and Sweet William. The card folders are marked with Kensitas Flowers in a green slanted cursive script, with individual flower names printed in a matching font. The interior of each folder contains printed botanical details and historical information related to the specific flower depicted. These items were produced in the United Kingdom as promotional inserts.
Condition report:
The card mounts exhibit signs of age including general foxing, light surface soiling, and minor wear to the corners and edges. The embroidered silk inserts remain in good condition with vibrant colours including pinks, blues, purples, and greens. There is no significant fraying or fading visible to the silk elements.
