Description

Two vintage cigarette cases of differing profiles. The first is a combined cigarette case and petrol lighter manufactured by Polo and marked Made in England. The exterior is constructed from white metal, likely chrome or nickel-plated, featuring a detailed engine-turned finish with alternating panels of wavy and straight parallel lines. It includes a blank rectangular cartouche. The interior is gilt-finished and contains a spring-loaded retaining arm marked with a stylized Polo script, Made in England, and a British patent number. The integrated lighter mechanism is located at the top corner with a visible Polo stamp on the housing. The interior leaves bear handwritten ink inscriptions including technical notes regarding a channel ten oscillator coil and a list of times. The second item is a slim-profile cigarette case with a vertical linear engine-turned pattern and a rectangular cartouche. It features a chrome or nickel-plated finish over a base metal with a gold-toned interior and one retaining arm. No maker marks are visible on the second case.

Condition report:

The Polo case is in generally good vintage condition with light surface scratching and minor wear to the plating. The interior has significant handwritten ink inscriptions. The lighter mechanism is complete with flint wheel and snubber but remains untested for functionality. The slim case is in poor to fair condition with heavy scratching and significant brassing where the base metal is exposed through the plating, particularly on the reverse and edges. The interior shows spotting and wear.
