Description

This three-piece ceramic tea service was manufactured by Gibson and Sons Limited of Staffordshire, England, for the Taunton Vale Company. The set is produced from glazed earthenware and comprises a teapot with a fitted lid and finial, a lidded twin-handled sugar bowl, and a cream jug. Each vessel is designed with a bulbous form and features a distinctive embossed band of hexagonal facets encircling the lower section of the body. The decoration consists of silver transfer-printed motifs and silver lustre highlights on a white ground. The teapot is decorated with a central wreath containing the inscription 25th Anniversary, flanked by two cherub figures. The sugar bowl and cream jug feature silver transfer-printed designs of bells tied with ribbons. Silver lustre is applied to the handles, spouts, rims, and lids, as well as the broad faceted band at the base of each piece. The base of the cream jug carries a printed manufacturer mark with the text A TAUNTON VALE COMPANY arranged in an arc above a crown, with a banner below reading GIBSON and the words STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND at the bottom.

Condition report:

The service is in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or evidence of repair. There is minor surface wear and light tarnishing to the silver lustre decoration consistent with age and occasional use.
