Description
A pair of mid-20th-century British ceramic planters produced by Shaw and Copestake of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. The first item is a horizontal trough-shaped foliate planter, model number 3290. It features a relief-moulded earthenware body with a two-tone glaze; the upper section is finished in a pale cream glaze, while the integral base is moulded as overlapping leaves and stems in a green glaze. The base is incised with 3290, SYLVAC, MADE IN ENGLAND, and additional marks 7 and |||. The second item is a rounded planter bowl, model number 3287, featuring a textured leaf exterior and interior in a green glaze. It is decorated with an applied high-relief white Arum Lily with yellow highlights to the front. The base is incised with 3287, SYLVAC, MADE IN ENGLAND.
Model 3290: Length approx. 230mm
Model 3287: Width approx. 190mm.
Condition report:
Both pieces exhibit fine surface crazing throughout the glaze. Item 3290 shows minor surface dirt in the crevices and interior. Item 3287 shows minor staining and dust accumulation within the flower head and the bowl interior. No significant chips, cracks, or repairs are visible.
