Description
A collection of numismatic items contained within a vintage Ridgways Ltd. tea tin. The tin is of octagonal form, finished in blue with floral pansy motifs and bearing the royal warrant for Queen Elizabeth II. The contents comprise a Bank of England one pound (£1) banknote, serial number 801277, and an assortment of British and Commonwealth coinage. Visible pieces include a 1961 East Africa 5 cents coin struck in a brass-toned alloy with a central perforation and star design. The collection also contains various UK pre-decimal and decimal coins in bronze and cupro-nickel, featuring the effigy of Elizabeth II and a large silver-coloured coin with a crown and floral emblems bearing the partial legend BRITT.
Condition report:
The items are in mixed circulated condition. The banknote exhibits heavy creasing, multiple folds, and significant edge wear. The coinage shows varying degrees of wear, with several pieces displaying heavy green verdigris, surface encrustation, and oxidation. The tin shows external surface scratches, minor paint loss, and interior oxidation.
