Lot 181:
Description
A two-piece lot of decorative enamelled brassware, in the style of mid-20th century Indian export ware from regions such as Moradabad or Jaipur. Both items are constructed from cast brass with decoration achieved through an etching process, with the recessed areas filled with coloured enamels in the champlevé technique. The lot includes a tapered bottle-form bud vase with a flared rim, featuring an etched design of an owl perched on a tree branch against a textured, pale grey-green enamel ground. The second item is a small globular jar with a fitted domed lid and a pointed brass finial, decorated with an intricate foliate and floral pattern in shades of gold, white, and orange. The exposed brass surfaces at the rims, finial, and bases exhibit a natural dull-gold patina. No maker marks, characters, or symbols are visible on the bases or bodies of either piece.
Bud Vase: 210mm height
Lidded Jar: 125mm height.
Condition report:
Both items are in good overall condition. There is minor surface wear and light scratching to the enamel consistent with age and handling. The exposed brass surfaces show a natural patina and light tarnish, particularly to the bases. No significant dents or losses to the enamel are visible.
