Lot 166:
Description
A novelty walking stick featuring a handle moulded in the form of a horse’s head. The handle is constructed from a composition resin material with a high-gloss painted finish, depicting a brown coat with a black mane and painted eyes. The handle is joined to the shaft by a contrasting orange-coloured collar. The shaft is made from a tapered stained hardwood with a naturalistic finish showing minor irregularities in the grain. The stick is terminated with a modern, wide-base black rubber ferrule designed for increased stability. No hallmarks or maker’s marks are visible on the handle or shaft.
Length: 92 cm.
Condition report:
The handle exhibits significant signs of wear and age, including prominent paint loss and chipping to the ears, muzzle, and crown, revealing the light-coloured base material beneath. The glossy finish shows surface scuffing throughout. The wooden shaft is in generally good condition with minor surface abrasions consistent with use. The rubber ferrule appears to be a later addition and is in good condition.
