Lot 115:
Description
This lot consists of three cast brass decorative items, including a pair of donkey-form holders and a tortoise-form box. The donkey figures are depicted in a standing pose, each supporting an open pannier basket on its back. These baskets feature incised crosshatch patterns and are hollowed for use as small desk tidies, toothpick holders, or match holders. Each donkey is mounted on an integral, textured rectangular base. The tortoise figure features a stylized, segmented carapace with a horizontal seam around the edge, indicating a removable lid for use as a small trinket or desk box. The head and limbs of the tortoise are finished with ribbed detailing. Similar brassware of this style is frequently associated with mid-20th-century decorative production. No maker marks or inscriptions are visible on any of the pieces.
Condition report:
The items are in good vintage condition. All pieces exhibit surface tarnishing, minor scratches, and darkened oxidation within the recessed areas of the casting, consistent with age and use. The tortoise shell has a small white surface mark or scuff on the upper carapace.
