Description
This brooch features a central oval cabochon of Derbyshire Blue John, a rare variety of fluorite sourced from the Castleton area of Derbyshire, England. The stone displays characteristic natural banding in shades of deep purple and translucent grey. The gemstone is held in a 925 silver rub-over setting, which is further embellished with a decorative twisted rope-work border. The reverse of the setting is stamped with the marks SILVER and MADE IN GT BRITAIN. The piece is fitted with a horizontal pin and a revolving safety catch mechanism.
Condition report:
The brooch is in good overall condition. The Blue John stone is secure in its setting with no visible cracks or significant chips to the surface. The 925 silver shows minor surface scratches and a natural tarnish consistent with age and use. The pin and revolving safety catch are fully functional.
