Description

An assortment of worldwide postage stamps dating from the mid-19th to early 20th centuries, presented on several stock cards. The collection features a significant representation of UK Victorian issues, specifically Penny Red definitives bearing various postal cancellations including BURY and numeral 194. Spanish colonial issues are present for the Philippines and Cuba, including denominations of 5 Centavos and 5 C. De Peso, with some examples carrying the IMPTO DE GUERRA war tax overprints. Portuguese colonial territories represented include Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Timor, St. Thomas and Prince, Guinea, Angra, and Funchal, largely featuring King Carlos I types with red REPUBLICA overprints. Other notable areas include the Ottoman Empire with crescent and star motifs, Bavaria coat of arms issues, Italy, and the Netherlands. The lot includes an early Spain 1854 Cuatro Onzas official issue in green. The stamps are predominantly perforated and used, displaying a variety of postal markings including circular date stamps, barred cancels, and numeral cancels such as 401 on Dutch issues.

Condition report:

The stamps are generally in used condition with a variety of postal cancellations. Centering is variable across the collection, ranging from poor to fine. Perforations are mostly intact, though some examples show typical blunt or short teeth consistent with the age and storage of the material. Some stamps exhibit heavy cancellations that partially obscure the central designs. The stock cards and protective strips are in functional condition.
