Description

A group of two ceramic lidded beer steins of German manufacture. The larger vessel features high-relief decoration against a cobalt blue ground, depicting a rustic building and figures in traditional dress. A banner is inscribed with the German text Wer froh auf Erden leben will. The base is incised with the marks W. Germany, Stein, and the number 4. The smaller vessel is decorated with a seated figure and scrollwork against a similar cobalt ground. The base bears the incised number 2074 and a shield mark containing the letters M and R, identifying the maker as Marzi and Remy. Both steins are fitted with hinged, domed metal lids featuring decorative thumbpieces and relief-moulded patterns.

Condition report:

Both items appear to be in good overall condition. There is expected minor surface wear and patina to the metal components consistent with age. No visible chips, cracks, or restorations are evident to the ceramic bodies.
