2nd Chance Short Auction
Lot 148:
Description
A collection of vintage multi-section fishing rods, primarily dating from the mid-20th century. The group comprises various rods constructed from split cane and wood, featuring cork grips and metal reel seats that include both simple sliding rings and chrome-plated screw-down fittings. The rods are finished with decorative silk whippings in various colours, notably red, black, and gold tones. Some rod blanks bear small labels or inscriptions, though these are not clearly legible. The construction styles and components are consistent with mid-century manufacturers such as Shakespeare and Horrocks-Ibbotson.
Condition report:
The collection is in a used condition consistent with age and period use. Physical characteristics include pitting and darkening to the cork grips, general wear and abrasions to the varnished finishes, and minor surface oxidation on the metal guides and reel seats.
