2nd Chance Short Auction
Lot 121:
Description
A set of six dress buttons of Edwardian style, constructed from 9 carat rose gold plated and mother-of-pearl. Each circular button features a polished white mother-of-pearl face set within a slim rose gold border. The centre of each face is decorated with a twisted rose gold wire cross-stitch motif. The reverse of each button is finished with a rose gold metal backing and a fixed eyelet loop. The set is accompanied by six brass-tone split pins for attachment to a garment. The collection is housed in an original fitted circular case with a dark green leatherette exterior, featuring a gold-tooled foliate border on the lid. The interior is lined with cream-coloured satin and velvet.
Condition report:
The buttons are in good vintage condition with light surface scratches and minor tarnish to the gold components consistent with age and use. The mother-of-pearl remains intact with a good lustre. The fitted case is in fair to good condition, showing visible wear and scuffing to the leatherette edges. The interior shows light discoloration and age-related yellowing to the satin lining. The hinge and push-button clasp are functional.
