Description
A collection of Kensitas Flowers silk cigarette trade cards, issued by J. Wix and Sons Ltd for Kensitas Cigarettes circa the 1930s. Each item is constructed as a small folding paper booklet. The paper folders feature green printed text including the series title in cursive script and descriptive botanical information or related poetry. Mounted inside each folder is a machine-embroidered silk panel depicting a specific flower in vibrant multi-coloured thread. Identified species within this assortment include Rambler Rose, Dahlia, Narcissus, Lupin, and Bleeding Heart. Promotional text on the interior of the folders includes the slogan Kensitas… Tobacco… They Taste Better.
Condition report:
The collection exhibits signs of age consistent with the 1930s period. There is widespread foxing and general age-toning to the paper folders, with occasional minor creasing to the corners. The embroidered silk panels are well-preserved with vibrant colours, though some minor fraying is visible at the edges where the silk meets the paper mounts.
