Lot 95:
Description
A pair of silver-plated candlesticks attributed to Walker and Hall of Sheffield. Each candlestick is cast in the form of a rampant lion supporting a staff, which is topped with a cylindrical candle nozzle. The nozzles are ornamented with high-relief foliate and floral motifs. The lions are mounted on lobed bases featuring scrolled borders. The design includes a shield positioned at the base of each staff. The pieces are manufactured from silver-toned metal showing characteristics of silver plate.
Condition report:
Both candlesticks show heavy all-over tarnishing and surface oxidation. One shield is currently detached from the base of the staff. There are visible signs of wear and evidence of potential historic repairs where the staffs are joined to the bases.
