Description
This collection comprises a framed colour print and three publications focused on early 20th-century ocean liners. The framed print depicts the four-funnelled SS Mauretania at sea near a lighthouse. Centred below the image, the text reads: SS Mauretania, This liner was built by Messrs Swan Hunter and Wigham Richardson at Wallsend-on-Tyne, in 1907, Accommodating 560 first class, 475 second class, and 1300 third class passengers. The print is presented in a polished wood frame with a gilt-effect inner slip and is glazed. The first book is titled Lost Liners: From the Titanic to the Andrea Doria – The Ocean Floor Reveals Its Greatest Lost Ships by Robert D. Ballard and Rick Archbold, with paintings by Ken Marschall. It is a UK hardcover edition published by Hodder and Stoughton with a pictorial dust jacket. The second publication is Titanic: The Story of the Disaster in the Newspapers of the Day, compiled from the collections of Eric Caren and Steve Goldman. This is a large-format softcover portfolio containing reproductions of historical newspaper front pages from April 1912, including mastheads for The Denver Post and Bangor Daily Commercial. The third book is Titanic Voices: Memories from the Fateful Voyage by Donald Hyslop, Alastair Forsyth, and Sheila Jemima, published by Sutton Publishing in association with Southampton City Council. It is a hardcover with a pictorial dust jacket.
Condition report:
The framed print is in good condition with minor age-related wear to the frame. Lost Liners shows minor shelf wear and light creasing to the dust jacket edges. Titanic: The Story of the Disaster in the Newspapers of the Day shows light edge wear to the softcover consistent with its format. Titanic Voices is in very good condition. All items are in used, collectible condition.
