Description
A three-piece ceramic tea set manufactured by Gibson in Staffordshire, England, for the Taunton Vale Company. The set is constructed from glazed white earthenware and was produced to commemorate a 25th Silver Wedding Anniversary. The collection comprises a lidded teapot, a milk jug, and a lidded sugar bowl. The teapot is decorated with a silver-toned transfer print featuring a central laurel wreath containing the inscription 25th Anniversary, flanked by two cherubs. The milk jug and sugar bowl are decorated with silver-toned wedding bell motifs tied with ribbons. Each piece features a wide, silver-coloured luster band around the base with a raised honeycomb geometric pattern. The handles, spouts, rims, and lid finials are finished in matching silver-toned luster. The base of the cream jug bears a black printed mark featuring the words A TAUNTON VALE COMPANY in a semi-circle above a crown symbol, with a banner containing the name GIBSON followed by the words STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND.
Condition report:
The set is in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or evidence of repair. There is minor surface marking and shelf wear to the unglazed foot rims consistent with age and use.
