Description

An Edwardian folding fruit knife featuring a 925 silver blade and carved mother-of-pearl scales. The 925 silver blade is struck with a full set of Sheffield hallmarks including the maker mark WN for William Needham, the crown town mark, the lion passant, and the date letter q for 1908. The handle is constructed from mother-of-pearl, with one side intricately carved with floral and geometric motifs and a vacant rectangular silver cartouche. The reverse side is decorated with two carved starburst motifs. The knife is finished with silver bolsters featuring horizontal reeded decoration and is secured by three pins. The blade includes a standard nail nick for opening.

Condition report:

The knife is in good antique condition. The 925 silver blade shows light surface scratching and minor tarnish consistent with age and use. The blade profile remains intact with no evidence of over-sharpening. The mother-of-pearl scales are well-preserved with a strong iridescent lustre and no visible cracks or chips. The folding mechanism remains functional.
