Description

A collection of British and international coins, predominantly silver and bronze denominations, housed within a commemorative metal tin. Notable numismatic items include a Queen Anne silver coin dated 1707, featuring the post-Union cruciform shields reverse and the legend MAG BR FRA ET HIB REG. The group includes a George V silver shilling, various George VI denominations, and a French Republic bronze coin. The items are contained in a rectangular metal tin issued for the 1935 Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary, bearing their portraits and the inscription Presented by THE COUNTY BOROUGH OF HUDDERSFIELD Ald. Albert Hirst J.P. Mayor. Included in the lot is a 1937 King Edward VIII Coronation Souvenir Handkerchief in red openwork textile, featuring a silhouette portrait, crown motif, and the legend CORONATION MAY 1937 KING EDWARD VIII. A small two-blade folding pocket knife with textured dark handle scales and metal bolsters completes the lot.

Condition report:

Coins exhibit varying degrees of circulation wear, heavy toning, and surface accumulation. The 1707 coin shows significant wear to the devices and legends. The metal tin shows surface oxidation, scratches, and loss of lithographed finish consistent with age. The textile handkerchief appears generally well-preserved with some creasing from storage. The pocket knife shows signs of use and age-related oxidation to the blades.
