This bronze commemorative medal is part of the National Medals series published by James Mudie. The obverse features the Napoleon Empereur et Roi type by Jean-Bertrand Andrieu, inscribed NAPOLEON EMP. ET ROI. with the signature ANDRIEU F. below the bust. The reverse features the Surrender to H.B.M.S. Bellerophon type by Nicolas-Guy-Antoine Brenet, inscribed SURRENDER TO H.B.M.S. BELLEROPHON CAPT. MAITLAND. around the upper edge. The exergue contains the date XV. JULY MDCCCXV. and is signed BRENET F. to the left and MUDIE D. to the right. This medal commemorates the surrender of Napoleon Bonaparte to Captain Frederick Maitland of the British Royal Navy on 15 July 1815.


Condition report:

The medal displays a consistent brown patina across both faces. Minor surface scratches are present, with light wear visible on the high points of the relief.
