Lot 16:
Description
A group of two German relief-moulded stoneware beer steins, each featuring polychrome decorative scenes and fitted with ornate domed metal lids. The first stein depicts a panoramic view of Heidelberg, inscribed with the city name and the German text ALT HEIDELBERG DU FEINE DU STADT AN EHREN REICH, translated as Old Heidelberg, you fine one, you city rich in honour. The second stein illustrates a hunting scene featuring a stag and a boar, inscribed JÄGER’S FREUD or Hunter’s Joy, and is distinguished by a figural fox-form handle. Both vessels are constructed from stoneware with relief decoration and finished with a multi-coloured glaze. The metal lids feature decorative thumb lifts and embossed patterns. The base of one stein bears the stamped mark ORIGINAL GERZIT and is marked GERMANY.
Condition report:
The items appear in generally good condition. There is minor age-related wear to the stoneware bodies. The metal lids and thumb lifts show signs of oxidation and surface wear consistent with age.
