Description
A pair of square ceramic tiles featuring nautical scenes, decorated using a tube-lined technique with hand-painted glazes. One tile depicts a boat with decorative bunting on the water, with the hand-written characters …when the boat comes in transcribed vertically along the left edge. The other tile shows a red and white striped lighthouse and an adjacent cottage, with the vertical inscription The mariner’s friend on the right edge. Both pieces feature bright blue sky and water motifs with raised outlines. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the front of the tiles.
Each tile measures approximately 15 cm (6 inches) square.
Condition report:
The items appear to be in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or signs of restoration to the glazed surfaces.
