Description
A wall-mounted magneto telephone manufactured by Standard Telephones and Cables Limited, London. The instrument is housed in a rectangular dark wood cabinet. The upper section features twin metal ringer bells mounted above a fixed funnel-style transmitter. A separate hand-held receiver is connected to the cabinet by a fabric-covered cord. A manual metal hand crank is located on the right side of the wooden housing. A metal identification plaque is screwed to the lower front of the case, bearing the inscription Standard Telephones and Cables Limited LONDON.
Condition report:
The telephone shows signs of age and use consistent with its period. There are visible surface scratches and wear to the wood finish throughout the cabinet. The metal components, including the ringer bells and the identification plaque, exhibit signs of oxidisation and tarnishing. The fabric-covered cord to the receiver is frayed. The mechanical functionality of the crank and internal components has not been tested.
