Description
A hand-carved wooden textile printing block of rectangular form, designed for traditional fabric decoration. The face is crafted from a dense, dark-toned hardwood and features a deeply carved geometric pattern. The design consists of a central diamond-patterned lattice flanked by horizontal rows of stylised foliate and circular motifs. A separately attached handle of lighter-coloured wood is fixed to the reverse for manual application. The block displays a dark patina and surface staining resulting from historical contact with dyes or pigments.
Condition report:
The item shows weathering to the wood grain and minor wear to the edges of the carved face. There is surface staining consistent with age and use. Two small holes are present on one end, with a fragment of natural fibre cord remaining in one.
