Description
An Indian hand-carved wooden textile printing block, also known as a bunta. The rectangular face is relief-carved with multiple horizontal registers depicting stylised floral, foliate, and scrollwork motifs. The reverse features an integrated, substantial hand grip. The block is marked with a white adhesive label numbered 946 on the grip and faded characters, identified as South Asian numerals, on the side of the base. A small, oxidised metal ring is attached to the handle.
Condition report:
The piece shows a dark, aged patina with surface wear, staining, and minor losses to the carved edges consistent with historical use. The metal ring exhibits signs of oxidation.
