Description
A Japanese-style decorative katana featuring a polished metal blade with an etched wavy hamon line and a gold-toned blade collar known as a habaki. The handle is constructed from a cream-coloured material carved in deep relief with various figures and traditional motifs, terminating in a dragon-head pommel accented with a small red inset bead. The circular, gold-toned metal guard or tsuba displays openwork and dragon designs, which are mirrored in the gold-toned fittings of the scabbard. The scabbard has a black lacquered finish and is tied with a patterned black and tan decorative cord or sageo.
Condition report:
The piece is in good condition overall, showing only minor surface wear and light marks on the scabbard and blade consistent with handling.
