Description
A Victorian-era cast gilt-metal pin-back badge for the Sheffield and Hallamshire Veterans Guild. The central design features a heraldic shield with an anchor and star motif, surmounted by the V.R. Victoria Regina monogram, a royal crown, and a lion crest. The shield is encircled by a laurel wreath and a banner inscribed with the guild name. A suspended pendant depicting St. George slaying the dragon is attached to the base. The reverse is engraved with the names of guild officials: LT. COL J.E. BINGHAM, PRESIDENT; P. COLVER ESQ. TREASURER; and F. PARTINGTON, HON. SEC. The badge is fitted with a pin and C-clasp fastening to the reverse.
Condition report:
The piece exhibits a darkened patina with minor surface wear and oxidation consistent with age. There is some rubbing to the gilt finish on high points and minor surface scratches to the reverse.
