Lot 151:
Description
This framed Chinese silk embroidery depicts the mythological motif of the Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea, representing the victory of the Eight Immortals over the Dragon King. The central composition features the eight figures positioned upon a gnarled, branch-like vessel navigating stylised white-capped waves against a solid teal-coloured background. Two cranes are depicted in flight in the upper left quadrant. The upper right quadrant contains the four Chinese characters 八仙過海. The embroidery is mounted within a patterned silk border and is housed in a dark-toned rectangular wooden frame behind glass.
Condition report:
The embroidery appears to be in good overall condition with vibrant colours. There is minor undulation to the silk ground. The frame shows light surface wear and minor scuffs consistent with age. The piece has not been examined outside of the frame.
