Description
This lot consists of a 925 silver smoking pipe or decorative tool featuring an applied figure of an oriental style dragon. The item is constructed with a cylindrical shaft upon which the dragon is cast with a textured body, open mouth, and a small ring through its snout. One end of the shaft terminates in a spherical pommel inset with a small cabochon, possibly a seed pearl or mother-of-pearl. The shaft is struck with a set of British hallmarks including the maker’s mark JP, the lion passant signifying sterling silver, the leopard’s head for the London assay office, and a date letter.
Condition report:
The item displays an aged patina with visible surface tarnish and light wear consistent with historical use. There are minor surface scratches and small indentations to the silver. The inset cabochon appears intact and secure.
