Lot 77:
Description
A hand-carved wooden decorative figure depicting a stylized hound dog, likely a basset hound or bloodhound, in a lying position with its head resting on its paws. The piece is carved from a single block of wood, displaying natural grain patterns throughout the body. It features exaggerated anatomical details including long, heavy ears and carved ridges along the back to represent skin folds. The ears and paws are finished with a dark stain, while the face and body retain a lighter wood tone. The eyes are hand-painted with yellow and black pigments, and the nose is finished in black. No maker’s marks or signatures are present.
Length: approximately 220mm.
Condition report:
The figure exhibits signs of age and handling consistent with mid-century decorative items. There is significant paint loss and wear to the finish on the muzzle, nose, and the edges of the ears. The wooden surface shows minor scuffs, small dings, and natural variations in the grain. No structural damage or major repairs are evident.
