Lot 49:
Description
This collection of glazed earthenware is characteristic of the cottage ware style produced in the United Kingdom during the mid-20th century, specifically resembling the designs of Price Kensington. The assortment features various domestic and decorative items modelled as traditional thatched cottages, including teapots with thatched-roof lids, a tall cylindrical biscuit barrel, a water jug, a milk jug, and a set of egg cups on a rectangular tray. Also included are a toast rack with cottage dividers, a three-piece condiment set, lidded preserve jars, a butter dish, and several drinking vessels such as mugs, tea cups, and saucers. A novelty table bell completes the group. Each piece displays moulded architectural details including brickwork and windows, finished with hand-painted underglaze decoration in a palette of brown, yellow, and green with floral accents. No factory marks are visible on the bases.
Condition report:
The collection is in good condition overall, showing signs of wear consistent with age and domestic use. Fine surface crazing is present on several pieces, which is typical for earthenware of this period. There is minor wear to the painted highlights and edges. No significant chips, cracks, or restorations are visible.
