Description

This lot consists of two decorative brass items of Anglo-Indian origin, dating to the mid-to-late 20th century and characteristic of production from the Moradabad region. The first item is a tall vase with a bulbous body and a flaring rim. The second item is a small bulbous lidded jar with a pedestal base and a pointed finial. Both objects are manufactured from brass with a textured silver-toned surface wash. The decoration is executed through engraving and chasing, with the recessed patterns filled with polychrome cold enamel in shades of orange, pink, green, and brown. The vase features scrolling foliate motifs and flowers, including a stylised owl depicted in brown. The lidded jar is decorated with a repeating pattern of scrolling leaves and small flowers. The natural yellow colour of the brass is visible on the interiors and the undersides of the bases. No maker marks are present.
Vase: 21.5 cm height. Lidded Jar: 11.5 cm height.

Condition report:

Good overall condition. There is minor wear to the silver-toned ground and the coloured enamel decoration, consistent with age and use. A natural dark patina is visible on the exposed brass surfaces at the rims and bases.
