Description
An assortment of international postage stamps spanning the mid-19th to early 20th centuries, presented on several stock cards within protective sleeves. The collection includes UK Queen Victoria Penny Red issues with corner letters and One Penny inscriptions, many featuring circular cancellations including a Bury example. Portuguese colonial issues are included for Timor, Angola, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe, Angra, Funchal, and Cape Verde, depicting King Carlos I with some bearing Republica overprints. Spanish colonial material includes issues for Cuba and the Philippines with denominations such as 5 centavos and 1 mila de peso, including War Tax (Impuesto de Guerra) examples. The lot further contains Italian Francobollo and Poste Italiane issues, Netherlands definitive stamps, and German state issues from Bavaria (Bayern) featuring the coat of arms. Ottoman Empire stamps with Toughra motifs and Emp: Ottoman overprints are present, as is an 1854 Spanish issue inscribed Cuatro Onzas.
Condition report:
Stamps are in mixed mint and used condition. Cancellations include various circular date stamps and town marks. Centring is generally average to fine for the era. Perforations appear mostly intact, though some examples may show minor faults or short perfs. Occasional foxing or light staining consistent with age.
