Description

Two decorative wall mirrors produced in the late 20th century, styled as vintage maritime and river transport advertisements. The first mirror features a central illustration of a three-masted steam-assisted sailing ship at sea, flanked by two multi-coloured compass roses and decorative scrolling corner borders. A banner at the bottom right is inscribed Oriental Steam Navigation Company. It is housed in a moulded wooden frame with a dark brown stained finish. The second, smaller mirror depicts a multi-decked river steamboat with large red text reading Louisiana. Additional inscriptions include Steamboat Company, Founded 1888, and a list of ports including St. Louis, Memphis, Greenville, Natchez, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. This mirror is set within a simple moulded light wood frame.
46cm x 36cm and 31cm x 19cm.

Condition report:

The Oriental Steam Navigation Company mirror exhibits widespread foxing and silvering loss across the lower half and central motif, consistent with either age-related deterioration or intentional decorative distressing. The Louisiana mirror plate is in generally good condition with minor surface wear. Both frames show light scuffing and wear consistent with age and use.
