Description

This lot consists of two early 20th-century religious volumes. The first is an Oxford edition of the Book of Common Prayer bound in black textured leather. The front cover is gold-stamped with the inscription: By the will of Philip, Lord Wharton, 1696. Presented 1916. The interior contains a formal presentation page dedicated to William Cameron of the Parish of Frizington, dated 1916. The second volume is titled Common Prayer Hymns A&M and is bound in a cream pebble-grain material with a gilt cross on the front cover. The flyleaf bears a handwritten personal inscription: To my dear Mother from her Son Willie 19th July 1930 from London. Both volumes feature gilt titles to the spines.

Condition report:

Both items exhibit wear consistent with age and handling. The black leather volume shows moderate shelf wear to the extremities. The cream volume displays significant degradation and loss to the spine material along with general soiling to the covers. Minor foxing and toning are present on the interior pages of both volumes.
