Description
A French bronze commemorative medal celebrating the conquest of Egypt in 1798. The obverse features a high-relief profile bust of a young Napoleon Bonaparte, signed along the lower edge J. JOUANNIN F. DENON D. The reverse displays an intricate allegorical scene showing a figure in a chariot drawn by two crocodiles passing an Egyptian obelisk and a classical column, with a winged Victory figure above. The reverse is inscribed L’EGYPTE CONQUISE above the date MDCCXCVIII in Roman numerals. The lower rim is signed BRENET F. DENON D. The medal is struck in bronze with a rich, even patina.
Condition report:
The medal is in good condition, showing a consistent patina across both faces. There are minor surface marks and slight tarnish consistent with the age of the object.
