Lot 285:
Description
A Thai commemorative medal struck in metal with a gilt finish, produced to celebrate the Rattanakosin Centennial, circa 1882. The obverse features the relief profile busts of the first five monarchs of the Chakri Dynasty, Rama I through Rama V, in a layered arrangement. This central motif is encircled by a border of Thai script. The medal is characterised by a distinctive sunburst-style serrated edge. The reverse is extensively inscribed with Thai text detailing the historical significance of the piece, surmounted by a central royal-style emblem.
Condition report:
The medal shows moderate surface wear consistent with age. There is visible loss to the gilt finish across the high points of the relief and the serrated edges. A natural patina and oxidation are present within the recessed areas of the script and the royal busts.
