Lot 157:
Description
A contemporary wheel-thrown earthenware vessel by artist Christine Gittins. The piece features a bulbous body tapering to a tall, slender neck. The unglazed surface is highly burnished and decorated using smoke-firing techniques, resulting in a mottled grey and white finish. The exterior is further accented with fine, wandering black carbon lines characteristic of horsehair raku. An impressed monogram maker’s mark is present on the underside of the base. This lot includes a printed artist biography detailing Gittins’ career, including her move from South Africa to her studio in Llantrisant, Wales, and her professional memberships with the South Wales Potters, the Makers Guild in Wales, and the Craft Potters Association of Great Britain.
Condition report:
The vessel is in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The surface finish is consistent with the intended smoke-firing process.
