Description
A Chinese hand-carved soapstone figure seal depicting Shoulao, the God of Longevity. The figure is portrayed with a domed forehead and a long beard, holding a gnarled staff and a peach. The piece is fashioned from mottled reddish-brown and tan semi-translucent soapstone with a polished finish. The reverse features an incised inscription in Chinese characters reading 庚申中秋 (Mid-Autumn of the Gengshen Year) alongside a signature. The underside consists of a flat base deeply carved with four characters in stylised seal script, filled with aged and cracked red pigment.
Condition report:
The figure shows minor surface wear and light scratches consistent with age and handling. Small natural inclusions are present within the stone.
