Lot 417:
Description
A late 19th century stained wood commode chair, featuring a hinged solid wood seat that opens to reveal a recessed compartment containing a white ceramic lidded vessel. The chair is designed with a high backrest, ornamented with a central carved circular boss and incised foliate motifs above four turned spindles. The piece includes outward-curving armrests and stands on turned front legs. The construction utilises dark-stained wood, exhibiting a visible grain. No manufacturer markings are present.
Condition report:
The chair exhibits surface wear consistent with age and utilitarian use, including scratches, scuffs, and areas of finish loss, particularly to the seat and armrests. The timber remains structurally sound. The ceramic insert appears intact with minor surface discolouration.
