Description
A trio of framed satirical illustrations and postcards dating from the First World War period. The collection includes a reproduction print from Punch magazine titled The Hohenzollern, numbered 1, depicting Kaiser Wilhelm II with the caption Take courage, my brave Germans. Your Kaiser is prepared to sacrifice a million of you. This print is signed in the plate by A. Wallis Mills and carries the credit Reproduced by special permission of the Proprietors of Punch. Also included are two satirical postcards; one depicts the German Crown Prince and the Kaiser with speech bubbles containing the text Himmel! and Come on Father! and a caption reading Crown Prince: Come on Father, there is a big Englishman fighting 10 of us. This postcard bears the monogram JMD 14. The second postcard shows a British soldier in a cap marked S.C.T. alongside a German soldier and a tram car numbered 37, with a speech bubble reading Gi im beans owo lad!. This postcard is signed A. Moreland. The items are printed on paper and presented in modern wood-effect frames with white textured mounts and gold-tone inner fillets.
