Description
A pair of vintage Japanese porcelain lusterware tea cup and saucer set, likely dating to the early-to-mid 20th century. The set is constructed from thin porcelain. Both pieces feature polychrome enamel decoration depicting a blue bird and stylized floral and foliage motifs, outlined in black, set against a primary ground of pale yellow and pale green panels. The pieces are finished with a heavy application of silver luster to the rims and the cup handle, providing an iridescent quality typical of Japanese lusterware. The underside of the teacup bears a red, hand-painted mark reading “MADE IN JAPAN.”
