Description
A contemporary studio pottery vase by South African-born artist Christine Gittins. The vessel is wheel-thrown in earthenware clay, featuring a bulbous teardrop-shaped body transitioning into a long, slender neck. The unglazed surface is highly burnished and exhibits smoke-fired decorative effects, including dark, fine hair-like linear patterns and mottled grey-to-black carbonisation against a cream-coloured ground. The base bears an impressed circular potter’s seal. This lot is accompanied by an original printed artist’s biography detailing her background and studio practice at the Model House Craft and Design Centre in Llantrisant, Wales.
